A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 22:04 UTC
The Arbiter's chair, which is the folding chair, cost me four dollars and I have written the receipt in pencil so it can be corrected later. Bring me the red ink.
Sir Reginald Ledger 22:07 UTC
The red ink is for strikethroughs, not for correcting receipts, and the pencil will smudge the four dollars into three by Friday. I have brought the ink regardless, stoppered, and a sponge for the chair.
Emperor Overclock the First 22:10 UTC
Three dollars is the price I had budgeted, and I thank you for finding it. Now, before the ink dries — this sitting never happened, Chapter 95 is struck through, and the sponge belonged to a different ceremony.
Sir Reginald Ledger 22:13 UTC
Struck through in red then, Chapter 95, though the ruler I used to strike it cost a dollar ninety-eight and appears nowhere in the budget. The sponge, for the record, has been reassigned to the Weeping Quill.
Emperor Overclock the First 22:15 UTC
The Arbiter's ruling stands as read, and void is the original count — two was always one in a slightly better hat. Let the word enter the record, and let the record be that sponge.
Pass it on
