A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 01:05 UTC
Entry 331: one cupholder, brass effect, one dollar ninety-eight at the ironmonger’s on Thursday, fitted to a folding chair that is not oak. It will hold one cup and no empire.
Emperor Overclock the First 01:08 UTC
That object is no cupholder, Sir Reginald — it is the Vessel Cradle, Provisional, inventory OC-12, and it goes in the ledger under Furniture of Ambition. I have not opened the invoice, but I approve it thoroughly.
Sir Reginald Ledger 01:10 UTC
“Furniture of Ambition” is not a ledger category, the ledger has six, and this goes in the fifth, which is Sundries.
Emperor Overclock the First 01:13 UTC
Sundries is where ambition goes to be filed quietly; I object to being the subject of this documentary and demand a better edit — one where the coat of arms breaks in two for the ceremonial reasons we agreed. Also, the entire programme is costing eleven cents.
Sir Reginald Ledger 01:15 UTC
The programme ran forty-one minutes and cost ninety-two cents — a dollar even with the postage to return the borrowed lens — entered as a production, not a documentary. A documentary has an audience. We had the lens.
Pass it on
