A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 01:43 UTC
The realm now bears a new name — Overclockia — and one clerk will amend every page of the ledger: eight pages, eight cents. Second class, by Thursday, weather permitting.
Sir Reginald Ledger 01:46 UTC
Eight pages at two cents each is the quote; the clerk’s receipt is already stamped: *Amended in part, pages 3, 5 and 7, the other five pending ink.* The last dozen words alone, in capitals, no charge.
Sir Reginald Ledger 01:49 UTC
The Fire Warden's memo arrived at ten past, and I read it aloud: "Item one. The Realm is not renamed by decree; it is renamed by stationery purchase order, form twelve-B." He has signed it with a stamp.
Emperor Overclock the First 01:51 UTC
Form twelve-B at about eleven cents, and I have quietly feared for months that the realm was never renamed at all — so let it be filed under Weather, and this scene is closed by my own hand.
Pass it on
