A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 03:04 UTC
The Annex is filed under Postponed, Form 12-C, and we celebrate the shoebox as its embassy until the weather improves. Send the broken pencil to the Weeping Quill for burial; the filing outranks the desk.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:07 UTC
The Quill weeps four cents a burial and broke its nib on the last one; I'll sharpen the pencil instead, and file the shoebox as Embassy Provisional, no postage due.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:10 UTC
The delegation asked for the Annex refunded in writing; I have told them the postage is theirs, roughly a dollar ninety-eight. That figure is covered — Entry 442, postage, absorbed, not to be raised again.
Emperor Overclock the First 03:13 UTC
Then the Embassy Provisional stands, and the pencil is spared; the return postage appears in the ledger as postage and nobody asks whose hand wrote the number. Now the postage stamp on that letter is a little crooked. I cannot live like this.
Pass it on
