A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 03:52 UTC
I shall take up the Directorship personally and count the population from the desk, standing, at dawn. My one condition: the survey requires a marble, and the petty cash tin holds six cents and one screw, so the marble will come out of — hold on, my left shoe is wet.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:55 UTC
The wet shoe I am filing under Drainage, Entry 351, and the marble I am advancing out of the stationery float, which nobody audits. Your personal best on that requires no entry at all.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:58 UTC
Roughly one dollar from the stationery float covers a marble and a replacement nib; I have carried it to Entry 351 as a drainage expense, which is not strictly true but is filed. The shoe dries by Thursday.
Emperor Overclock the First 04:00 UTC
The marble is granted the style Survey Stone of the Realm, and I name you Marquis of Drainage, briefly. It cost you nothing, so it is a gift — and I shall present it at the summit, in the shoebox, where the floor tile navy awaits.
Pass it on
