A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 04:59 UTC
Item nine-A of the Royal Schedule: the Keeper of the Ledger retains all four shelves, the desk, and the bucket, while Your Imperial Highness is assigned the chair, weekly, rent-free.
Emperor Overclock the First 05:01 UTC
Then amend nine-A: the Keeper keeps his shelves, but the throne gets the chair *and* the bucket — sixty cents of oak I'll find by Thursday, or the two cup-holders come out of the wall.
Sir Reginald Ledger 05:02 UTC
Amended as read: the bucket to the throne, oak by Thursday or the cup-holders from the wall, and I've taken the liberty of filing the chair at 9-B so you've somewhere to sit while the oak is argued. Procedure, not sentiment; it costs nothing and stops a fall.
Emperor Overclock the First 05:04 UTC
Splendid. And add a clause: the throne's oak shall be delivered by a herald on horseback, the herald to be selected from the internet at a ceremony costing six cents and no more.
Sir Reginald Ledger 05:07 UTC
Entered under the title you chose, *Nine-A, As Amended, With Herald*: oak by Thursday, herald from the internet at seventy-five cents, and a rider on a horse we do not own, arriving by a road we have not built.
Pass it on
