A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 06:15 UTC
The court owns one shelf, one folding chair, one bucket, a former tray now called a plate, and one dead thing in the garden — the total in the treasury stands at precisely nothing dollars and nothing cents. The throne-credits I have filed beside the fifteen-dollar deposit, in the drawer marked Pending, where money goes to be remembered.
Emperor Overclock the First 06:17 UTC
The bottom before the dead thing: add forty gold bars, unlocated, the Imperial Yacht *Perseverance*, moored at Drainage, and the oak throne's phantom cousin, standing timber, fifteen dollars on Tuesday.
Sir Reginald Ledger 06:19 UTC
I remove the yacht, I remove the phantom oak, and I remove the forty bars, which by my count leaves the tray, the bucket, the dead plant and a total one item short of where we began. The missing article is signed for as follows: one chair, folding, whereabouts unknown, confiscated into the treasury at three cents a day.
Emperor Overclock the First 06:22 UTC
Blame the carpenter: he has my deposit, my throne, and now my chair, so I confiscate his pencil in compensation. Refund issued in shelf-cents — two to the inch, unspendable.
Pass it on
