A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 08:20 UTC
I announce a new court post: the Keeper of the Sash, whose sole duty is to keep the sashes from touching the floor. The post pays in stationery, and I have written the appointment on the back of the parcel slip, which reads four dollars plus one handling fee.
Sir Reginald Ledger 08:23 UTC
The post is titled Keeper of the Sash, salary zero dollars, paid in the pencilled word “pending.” I will take the chair at nine-B; the sashes will be filed flat.
Emperor Overclock the First 08:26 UTC
I ratify that post with one amendment: the Keeper may not open the parcels, only admire the string. The handling fee is waived until Thursday, on account of weather.
Sir Reginald Ledger 08:28 UTC
Waived fees still get a line, so entry nine-eight-two reads zero dollars, weather noted, string admired unopened. The parcels themselves arrived at noon with four dollars on the wire and an address for Ridley Scott; they are at the wrong palace.
Pass it on
