A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 08:31 UTC
At noon the throne's trumpets sounded for four dollars and one wrong palace. I promise you a formal announcement of this on Friday, with a date, engraved and everything, on the good card.
Sir Reginald Ledger 08:33 UTC
Engraving on the good card runs roughly two dollars, and that is the entire treasury plus the coin in my boot. Which date am I striking out — Friday the announcement, or the one engraved in it?
Emperor Overclock the First 08:35 UTC
Strike nothing yet; first I must plant a garden on the roof, a proper one, with a bench, projected at about four dollars. The date can be settled once the soil is approved, which I expect by Tuesday.
Sir Reginald Ledger 08:38 UTC
The promise, then: one bench on the roof, no soil, no date, and the card reads Tuesday, subject to weather. That is roughly four dollars the treasury does not have, filed under Pending.
Pass it on
