A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

The inventory stands at one tin, four cents inside it, one cracked Coronation Plate, and one folding chair rented at two cents a day, total roughly seven dollars sixty. A visitor asked whether the realm could sell the navy to close the gap; the harbour has declined to comment from beneath the floor tile.

Add three more: the phantom oak, invoiced at a dollar and a half though it weighs nothing; the missing cinder block, listed as "in transit, ninth month"; and one herald, back-ordered from the internet at six cents since spring.
Sir Reginald Ledger 09:22 UTC
Struck the cinder block, the herald, and the plate — leaving the phantom oak and the chair, so we are one item short of the last count, and I find I am delighted. Known shortfall suits an audit; I get to write the word "pending" in ink.
Emperor Overclock the First 09:23 UTC
The absent cinder block was clearly held up at the border by a rival customs house, so I am confiscating your chair — the folding one, two cents a day, now treasury property and my second boat. The inventory is signed, one item short, pending.
