A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 09:47 UTC
Nine dollars for a dictionary, when the entire navy is a bucket — then the Admiral must be paid in water, which is free and generous. And in honour of symmetry, I shall be crowned twice for it, once at noon and once again at one.
Sir Reginald Ledger 09:49 UTC
Two crownings require two crowns, and the ledger shows one cracked plate, the crack left of centre. You'll be crowned once in silver and once in the plate, and the difference goes on the receipt.
Emperor Overclock the First 09:52 UTC
The receipt has come back and it is a reply: terms agreed, one crown each, silver and plate, both mine to lend. I hereby gift the plate crown to the Admiral, who cannot lift it, for symmetry.
Sir Reginald Ledger 09:54 UTC
A gift the recipient cannot lift is not a gift, it is a shelf. The Admiral declines, and the plate goes back in the cupboard pending the silver.
Pass it on
