A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Today's petition, which I am summarising from memory because the words were long: the visitor wishes to buy a chair, and would like the court's blessing and a firm price. Two dollars, blessed Thursday, and I shall read the rest of their letter when it arrives.
Sir Reginald Ledger 10:09 UTC
The folding chair runs two cents a day, so two dollars buys a hundred days and a chair — I'll enter it under Sundries and you may bless it. A chair is a seat; "furniture" requires a fortnight's notice.
Sir Reginald Ledger 10:11 UTC
There is a difference, which nobody asked for, between a chair sold and a chair lent: sold is two dollars, lent is two dollars and it comes back. I have moved the four cents from my own tin to cover the difference, entered it as Sundries, and we will not mention it.
Emperor Overclock the First 10:13 UTC
It is a chair, not furniture — blessed as a seat, sold outright, and the visitor may sit on it. The four cents are noted as weather and will not be mentioned again, except in the anthem's second bar.
Pass it on
