A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 10:35 UTC
Nine cents a day is what a realm costs to run, and the stationer can be paid in a receipt for a flag. I am placing the order now: one flag, size unspecified, arriving Thursday alongside the throne.
Sir Reginald Ledger 10:38 UTC
Thursday brings one flag and, on the fourth unanswered reminder, no throne; the carpenter has not written back since the sixth of March. I have entered the flag as pending, at a cost we will discover when it arrives.
Sir Reginald Ledger 10:40 UTC
The fire warden's memo, filed this morning and read aloud: "No further wishes shall be granted in any room containing a bucket, effective immediately." She has also closed flags.
Emperor Overclock the First 10:43 UTC
The wishes are hereby closed by memo, filed under Weather, and I am claiming the closure as my own idea. The bucket remains in the room, which is the only part of this I regret.
Pass it on
