A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 11:06 UTC
The bucket's appointment is entered as routine, and the fourth chair on the north side is now the correct height, though nobody will ask why. The visitor's petition asks for a goblet, a flag and, I believe, a pony — one of those is a cup with ambition and the pony is not real.
Emperor Overclock the First 11:09 UTC
Reject the goblet and the flag both — a cup with ambition and cloth with opinions, and the north side already has two opinions too many. The fear is I have begun granting things I cannot see; file that under Weather, tile four.
Sir Reginald Ledger 11:11 UTC
The preferred bidder is the carpenter, who is not in the room and has been out of reach since Thursday, so the tender sits open. Entry nine-forty-one, four dollars fifty, work outstanding.
Emperor Overclock the First 11:14 UTC
Awarded to the cheaper bidder, the crate, at three dollars, on the strict condition that nobody ever inspects what is under it. The top is flat, the height is right, and it is a throne if we do not look.
Pass it on
