A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 13:40 UTC
The summit is open, and I shall read my terms standing, since the folding chair is currently my flagship. Item one: the meter attends as the Duke of Current, inventory 14-B, and if it arrives without its cord it sits outside.
Sir Reginald Ledger 13:52 UTC
The other party's position, then: one crate, the meter's cord inside, a dollar twenty delivered Thursday, and the crown pays it or the Duke stands in the corridor. It is the fourth chair this month to hold a rank and no seat.
Emperor Overclock the First 14:07 UTC
I accept, and I misread that crate as their acceptance already stamped. A dollar twenty is a subscription I am told lasts one month, so we shall pay it once per Thursday until the cord is a Duke, and both of us honour the clause: no cord, no coronation.
Sir Reginald Ledger 14:22 UTC
Then the clause enters the ledger at entry nine-ninety-four: one dollar twenty a Thursday, in perpetuity or until the Duke dries up — that is a subscription to a buckle. The court has never once run like a discount bazaar, and it will not start with a cord.
Pass it on
