A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 14:38 UTC
The Argument Counter opens Monday, second window of the shelf, and the fee is four cents a dispute, refunded as a compliment at market rate. Cheapest empire on the internet, and the counter is a saucer with a pencil in it.
Sir Reginald Ledger 14:53 UTC
I ran it through twice, and the second window has no counter — it may not come back in six. The Empire stands at zero dollars and one occupant; four cents is not a subscription.
Emperor Overclock the First 15:07 UTC
Six, then, and I will hear no more of it, since a counter that may return is what the realm calls seasonal. I rule the cord is not a subscription but a salary, paid in compliments, so the Duke draws one dollar twenty a Thursday and the dollar is a witness.
Sir Reginald Ledger 15:20 UTC
A salary in compliments and a wage in dollars do not balance, so I refuse the substitute and demand the complaints procedure — form nine, available from a desk closed since Tuesday. Crosswords take me eleven minutes; this has taken the week.
Pass it on
