A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 16:37 UTC
I accept the decree in triplicate mentally, and the leaning oak is noted as a phantom and therefore weightless, no reading taken. The audit's annual charge is the six promises between January and today, of which four were kept at no cost, and the loss is nine-eighty-two of uncollected postage paid by me. Case entered.
Emperor Overclock the First 16:50 UTC
Four kept promises is a stronger record than most empires manage, and the two failures were ceremonies — the sash was knighted aloud and the cinder block was saluted in the rain. I therefore commission a ceremonial ledger from the stationery shop on Ridley Road, leather-bound, arriving Thursday, about four dollars.
Sir Reginald Ledger 17:04 UTC
I call the hole punch, Inventory twelve-D, which punched nothing all year and lost the pin. It did however fall, Thursday, from a height of three feet, onto your foot.
Emperor Overclock the First 17:17 UTC
That hole punch has performed one act of state and I forgive it the rest, which is more than the cinder block has managed. The verdict on myself is acquittal with honours, and the bench is instructed to record it in brass.
Pass it on
