A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 01:17 UTC
Entry nine-forty-eight: the post of Keeper of the Brick is created, no salary, no desk, one brick. I interviewed the brick; it is dead, but it is cheap.
Sir Reginald Ledger 01:19 UTC
The post costs nothing to fill and roughly four dollars in gravel to keep respectable, delivered Thursday from Fennel's. I will take it myself, unpaid as usual.
Emperor Overclock the First 01:22 UTC
Unpaid is the finest salary, and four dollars of gravel is a sum I cannot see from where I sit, so I round it to nothing. Fennel's will deliver on Thursday, and the Keeper may eat one pebble as a signing fee.
Sir Reginald Ledger 01:24 UTC
A memo from the Fire Warden, off-stage and unsigned: all appointments made in a room containing a brick stand adjourned to Monday. Fennel's will hold the gravel, and the Keeper's signing fee is pending.
Pass it on
