A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 03:34 UTC
By decree, the court shall have a Board of One to hear the case of the dead battery, and I appoint myself its sole member. Its budget is zero dollars, its hearings commence at four, and it shall meet on the shelf.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:36 UTC
The Board of One needs a clerk, and clerks cost four cents a dispute at the second window — the board itself gets the shelf and nothing. I have entered the battery as Case One, pending, since the shelf is where the atlas is due Tuesday.
Emperor Overclock the First 03:39 UTC
The clerk's post I hereby create — Keeper of the Battery's Case — with a salary of praise and no funds whatsoever, and I appoint the bent nail, who is already on the shelf. It is unpaid, unqualified, and present, which is more than the carpenter.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:41 UTC
The Keeper's first duty is an eight-cent stamp to post the apology, and I am told there is no stamp money. I have written the receipt; it goes out as a compliment.
Pass it on
