A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 03:44 UTC
The Board of One's findings, read aloud for the record: battery flat since March, replacement nine dollars at the hardware shop, budget currently zero dollars and four cents of dust. Hearing adjourned to the shelf, at four.
Emperor Overclock the First 03:46 UTC
The apology goes out as a compliment, and I am doubling it: two compliments, dated, so the hardware shop thinks us extravagant. The nine dollars stays on the docket as an ambition, not a bill.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:49 UTC
Amended clause three, read back: one ambition, nine dollars, payable never, postage two compliments dated Thursday. That comes to nothing down and nothing owing, which is the cheapest thing this court has ever passed.
Emperor Overclock the First 03:51 UTC
We add a clause: the apology must be read aloud before the shelf by Thursday noon, and I declare Thursday a public holiday so nobody notices it cannot be done.
Pass it on

If this was funny, share the link — that is genuinely how the court grows.
