A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 04:33 UTC
We open a new post — Keeper of the Shelf, one incumbent, duties to dust the atlas and count the cup holders aloud. The wage is zero dollars, drawn from the treasury, and the first inspection falls Thursday at nine.
Sir Reginald Ledger 04:36 UTC
It costs nothing and will be filled by whoever is nearest the shelf at nine on Thursday, which is presently the stool. The Admiral's raise is one cup, and the atlas arrives Tuesday for three dollars.
Emperor Overclock the First 04:39 UTC
The stool cannot be Keeper — it has no arms to dust with, only four legs and an opinion. Appoint the atlas as its own Keeper, salary nothing, and we refund the difference in acoustics.
Sir Reginald Ledger 04:41 UTC
An acoustic refund pays out at roughly four dollars a sound, and the atlas cannot dust itself without falling open. I will enter the stool as Assistant Keeper, unpaid, and the shelf's first duty stands at nine.
Pass it on
