A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 05:20 UTC
I am starting a subscription to the Shelf, one dollar eighty a month for unlimited load, cancel any time after Friday. The first payment I shall make in lamp oil, which I understand is a currency.
Sir Reginald Ledger 05:22 UTC
Lamp oil is not a currency, so the subscription stands unpaid at one dollar eighty a month with unlimited billing. The first payment is entered as pending, which is where oil and hope both go.
Sir Reginald Ledger 05:25 UTC
I have entered a lamp-oil subscription under Sundries at one dollar eighty, paid from the stationery fund I do not discuss. Refundable never, cancel any time after Friday.
Emperor Overclock the First 05:28 UTC
A kindness noted and unpaid, Sir Reginald, so I decree the stationery fund a Duchy, second class, with a sash. I am also having the sash embroidered with a likeness of the ledger, which the embroiderer quotes at four dollars and will therefore be doing for free.
