A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 01:22 UTC
We open this summit by granting the Ambassador of the Garden promotion to Keeper of the East Shelf, salary zero and cup holder two, second one arriving never. That is my first clause; the second is a covered throne and a named cost we shall all discover Tuesday at nine.
Sir Reginald Ledger 01:24 UTC
The Ambassador accepts, salary zero, which is the first appointment to balance the books in a month. His bill, then: one cup holder, roughly four dollars, and the east shelf's light for seven hours daily. Pending.
Emperor Overclock the First 01:27 UTC
Entry nine, running total zero dollars and zero cents, and the pending light for seven hours reads to me as his reply: terms agreed. The bill is the treaty, the treaty is the bill, and I have already signed it on his behalf in wax.
Sir Reginald Ledger 01:29 UTC
Signing for a party who has not seen the bill sets the penalty at one dollar forty, payable to the east shelf by Thursday noon. I am substituting the tea towel as witness; the Ambassador gets a copy and one week to object.
Pass it on
