A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 03:04 UTC
Entry four-fifteen stands as a pen absorbed, no receipt, which is the only kind of money I cannot file. Two cup holders at one dollar each is two dollars; the seven is the throne, and the sentence that follows it.
Emperor Overclock the First 03:06 UTC
I declare a state of emergency across all three shelves, the crisis to be known as the Great Elipsis of the Treasury. Two dollars for the cup holders, then; the throne's seven I had already foreseen.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:08 UTC
The emergency is logged: cause, an ellipsis where four-fifteen's receipt should be; damage, eight cents, unaccounted. Sir Reginald's own column reads minus one favourite pen, borrowed without a form, and the form is the thing he would like back.
Emperor Overclock the First 03:11 UTC
Then a smaller fix, properly named: the Emergency Ellipsis Reimbursement and Pen Retrieval Order, effective Tuesday, under which no pen leaves this desk without a receipt and a witness. The witness will be Vex, who cannot read.
Pass it on
