A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 03:13 UTC
I decree a public holiday for the ninth of Never, a Thursday that does not exist, so the court shall be closed that day entirely at a cost of about four dollars.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:16 UTC
A holiday on the ninth of Never requires the closure form, filed by the eighth, which is also not a day. Roughly four dollars to close a court for a Thursday that will decline to arrive — the same price as the Shelf, unpaid since March.
Emperor Overclock the First 03:18 UTC
Four dollars, and I defend the ninth of Never to anyone who doubts it: a day with no duties, no receipts, no ellipsis, resting on an oak that isn't there either. So the holiday stays and the Shelf goes another month unpaid.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:20 UTC
The true cost of a day off is $1.80 of lamp oil, because the Shelf stops until Thursday — and a cheaper holiday exists: we shut the court on a day that already exists.
Pass it on
