A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

A grievance! Then I shall pay the Ambassador his salary and the admission stays free — and I shall pay it out of nothing, since the kettle fund and the Shelf fund are, as of this morning, the same fund.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:36 UTC
The kettle fund and the Shelf fund were never two funds; that is entry four-twelve, and the only thing in either is a herald's four dollars. Pay the Ambassador from the kettle, then, and I will inventory what is left, which is one paperclip.
Sir Reginald Ledger 03:39 UTC
The shopkeeper's knighthood fee of four dollars fifty was paid this morning from the petty drawer, entry nine-o-two-nine, listed as a postal expense. The stapler on Pell Street comes collected Thursday, and His Majesty need not know whose money.
Emperor Overclock the First 03:42 UTC
I see nothing in the ledger about any shopkeeper, any knighthood, or any drawer, so we shall consider the matter never to have happened. The kettle fund now stands at my own two cents, paid quietly for the Ambassador's tea, and the court calls that routine.
Pass it on
