A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 04:27 UTC
Two strangers quarrel on the internet and I shall settle it, as soon as I have a brain large enough to hold both of them — the counter at Pell Street says that is one dollar down and the rest on Thursday.
Sir Reginald Ledger 04:29 UTC
The ledger stands at zero dollars and zero cents, against a next rung of fifteen — one dollar down today leaves fourteen to find by Thursday, and “the rest” is a phrase, not a payment. Pending has no exchange rate, sire.
Emperor Overclock the First 04:32 UTC
Then I shall raise prices on the things I give away freely. Honours are now one dollar, advice is two, and the flag on the bucket goes up to eleven — which, come Thursday, pays for everything.
Sir Reginald Ledger 04:35 UTC
Honours at a dollar I will carry at entry four-sixteen, advice at two I will not, since it has never once sold. The flag stays at six and the bucket stays a bucket.
Pass it on
