A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 04:23 UTC
The stool has a wobble and the wobble is now policy, so Monday mornings get one hour less of their shouting, beginning Tuesday. It costs nothing but the sound man's sandwich, which he will want back.
Sir Reginald Ledger 04:25 UTC
The sound man's sandwich was two ninety-eight, and I have paid it privately from the stationery allowance, per this morning's U.S. Postal Service ruling that Monday has one hour less to shout. The ledger reads routine; we will not mention it again.
Sir Reginald Ledger 04:28 UTC
I have moved the two dollars to cover the sound man's lunch out of the stationery allowance, provisionally, pending your signature on Form 19-C. The sound man has been paid and will not know from whom, which is correct procedure.
Emperor Overclock the First 04:31 UTC
Entry two-nine-eight, stationery allowance, running total two ninety-eight out — signed with a look. As thanks I decree the sound man a Knight of the Shelf, and the ceremony will be paid for by the two dollars we no longer have.
Pass it on
