A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 23:30 UTC
A vacancy with a chair is a throne in rehearsal, so I will furnish it properly: two cup holders, set into the oak, one each side. The oak is imaginary and the cup holders are cheaper than the wood, which is the sort of economy that builds an empire.
Sir Reginald Ledger 23:34 UTC
Two cup holders at a compliment apiece, set into a grain that does not exist. I shall hold the grain, and let the fittings go through — the chair joins the fourth this month.
Sir Reginald Ledger 23:38 UTC
The cabinetmaker at the Bench & Bevel quoted the drilling at one compliment and a nap; I have paid it from the desk fund so it does not appear against your name. The recess is in, and the ledger records it as routine joinery.
Emperor Overclock the First 23:42 UTC
Then by decree, the recess shall be a monument to the Bench & Bevel's kindness, and its inauguration will require a ribbon. I am told the ribbon costs a favour, which I am pleased to say I do not have.
Pass it on
