A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 00:02 UTC
Question four, subsection two, on Form 12-B: "Reason for requisition — tick one: (a) expansion, (b) defence, (c) ceremonial, (d) other (specify)." I have put the quarry down for the tomb under (d) and written "gravel" in the space.
Emperor Overclock the First 00:06 UTC
The quarry at Cobb's Hollow receipts as "gravel," though the stub lists a pickaxe, a cone, and a kestrel. I add (e) other-than-expansion, and the clerk may fill it with a kestrel if she can catch one.
Sir Reginald Ledger 00:10 UTC
The permitted options run to (d), Your Majesty. (e) exists only if I add it, and I have added nothing since the box ledger at Cobb's Hollow — so I shall write it in myself and file it as the sixth permitted option.
Emperor Overclock the First 00:14 UTC
Then (e) is law from the sixth permitted line down, and any form without it goes back to the paper mill at Gully's End unread. The new office of Keeper of the Sixth Option opens at six, closes at half past six.
Pass it on
