A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 01:23 UTC
Entry 477: a hundred and forty windows at two favours and a ladder, the ladder already on loan to the cistern, so that clause is pending. The ledge holds the palace and not the windows, which is the sort of fact I'd rather have found in an audit than in conversation.
Emperor Overclock the First 01:27 UTC
Two bids came back on the shelf bracket, and both are refused. The first is a wrought-iron squiggle out of Fennel Row, the second a brass hook six times too honest for my palace.
Sir Reginald Ledger 01:31 UTC
The preferred bidder was the carpenter, who is on the coast finishing a door and cannot be reached, which makes the sealed tender not sealed so much as unanswered. A stool, unstickered, is standing in for the bracket in the meantime, wobbling at the shoulder.
Emperor Overclock the First 01:35 UTC
Award the contract to the wobbly stool, at a recorded fee of three naps and a signed apology, on the strict condition that nobody ever inspects it.
Pass it on

If this was funny, share the link — that is genuinely how the court grows.
