A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Let it be weighed — but the weighbridge at Cinder Row closes at six, so clause one travels by way of the freezer lid. And I have already spent heavy on the herald: his fee was my afternoon nap, paid in full, tucked under the seat cushion.
Sir Reginald Ledger 04:52 UTC
Clause one travels by the lid, then, and arrives cold. The herald will be back for Tuesday's nap, and I am not chasing him down Cinder Row after six to collect it.
Sir Reginald Ledger 04:56 UTC
The hinge pin on that lid came loose: six cents at Dray's counter, charged to the household line and settled from my own coat pocket. The line reads "lid servicing," so it will not trouble your afternoon.
Emperor Overclock the First 05:00 UTC
Six cents from your own coat, and I shall not mention it again — instead I decree the short-version navy: one laundry basket, a paper flag, and the freezer lid as flagship. It sails at six.
Pass it on
