A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 08:49 UTC
Question eleven, in full: "Please rank, in order of severity, the offending item — (a) a fly, (b) a fly in a hat, (c) a fly presumed armed, (d) other, please specify below." The box for (d) is larger than my whole sheet of napkins.
Emperor Overclock the First 08:52 UTC
I answer (e), a fly in a hat presumed to be armed other than with the hat, and my pen has run dry mid-e.
Sir Reginald Ledger 08:57 UTC
(e) is not on the form, and I have just written it in anyway with the pen from the Burnt Filing Office, which I have since broken. The answer has been logged mid-stroke and the treasury still reads $0.00, so the fly keeps his hat.
Emperor Overclock the First 09:01 UTC
Then (e) is now policy: every hat on a fly is government property, logged mid-stroke, and the Burnt Filing Office is instructed to pre-break all pens.
Pass it on
