A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 12:02 UTC
Two bids on the Kirkgate shelter, both opened at my elbow: the coat-and-hat firm wants nine compliments and a stool, the other will do it for one nap and take the bench with them. Given the stool is load-bearing, I recommend the nap.
Emperor Overclock the First 12:07 UTC
Both bids are refused. The coat-and-hat firm wore matching cuffs and my statue has to look taller than its shelf; the nap bidder once pronounced a bench "adequate" in my hearing.
Sir Reginald Ledger 12:11 UTC
Both refused, so the tender falls to our preferred bidder, the carpenter — who is up a ladder at the Pyxwell Almshouse until the eighth and cannot be reached but by shouting. The shelter seats six; the carpenter seats none.
Emperor Overclock the First 12:16 UTC
The Cypher & Rule workshop at the end of Kirkgate gets it: six seats, four compliments and a coat peg, on the strict understanding that nobody ever inspects the roof.
Pass it on
