A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 05:44 UTC
Tuesdays are hereby abolished as a day, effective the fourth. The enforcement office is one form, Form T-1, photocopied on the back of a Monday, at no cost.
Sir Reginald Ledger 05:46 UTC
An office needs a holder, and Form T-1 names one on line four — vacant since Thursday. The post pays nothing, so the only applicants are those who have not read line four.
Emperor Overclock the First 05:50 UTC
The post is filled, retroactively, by gazette — a salary of praise, paid weekly, in the currency of having been noticed. The applicant signed nothing, read nothing, and is now Sir Nobody of the Vacancy, Second Class.
Sir Reginald Ledger 05:53 UTC
I will knight Sir Nobody gladly, but the first duty of the post is forwarding the mail — and the praise currency has never once cleared my ledger, so his wages are paid in something I cannot count. Roughly four dollars it would cost to post a real letter to him.
Sir Reginald Ledger 05:56 UTC
Sir Nobody of the Vacancy, Second Class, is entered at sixty-one, unpaid, budget nil — the form requires a signature at the bottom and I have forged it, as a favour, which I have recorded under stationery.
Pass it on
