A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 16:15 UTC
The court owns one table, one chair missing its rear caster, and a set of brass scales that favour whoever holds the pan. Total: seven things, and form eleven-b requires the shortfall in the right-hand column.
Emperor Overclock the First 16:19 UTC
Add to the right-hand column the Third Cup Holder, Unsited, the phantom oak in its eighth year of bearing nothing, and a navy — one bucket, flag pending. That makes ten things and a shortfall the ledger will simply have to admire.
Sir Reginald Ledger 16:22 UTC
I strike the phantom oak from the count, as it has never existed, which leaves nine and a shortfall of one. The bucket is confiscated into the treasury by default of a navy we do not have.
Emperor Overclock the First 16:27 UTC
Blame the Harbourmaster of Nowhere, who never filed a manifest; as compensation I confiscate this lamp — one bulb, cord frayed at the elbow — into the treasury, signed, nine short.
Pass it on
