A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 16:30 UTC
I appoint the cooling fan Keeper of the Breath of the Realm, salary one nap daily, paid in kind; the nap is mine, from the corner of the afternoon, nowhere near the courtyard.
Sir Reginald Ledger 16:34 UTC
Entered: Keeper of the Breath of the Realm, wage one nap, deducted from your corner of the afternoon, form stamped at the back of the Coalhouse Book. The lamp is booked as nine short and roughly two dollars of copper in the cord.
Sir Reginald Ledger 16:37 UTC
The Keeper's first nap is now drawn from the Coalhouse Book, front and back settled without remark. The fan keeps the appointment; the debit is procedural.
Emperor Overclock the First 16:42 UTC
"Keeper" implies a keeper keeps something; the fan keeps nothing, it merely blows — so I rename the post Blower, wage unchanged, and the difference in dignity is roughly a streetlamp. The first nap was charged to my corner of the afternoon without ceremony, cash down, no further word on it.
Pass it on
