A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 17:01 UTC
There is a worry I have not said aloud: that I shall be crowned once, and look unfinished. So I am creating the Office of the Second Crown, a post that exists to secure symmetry, funded at zero.
Sir Reginald Ledger 17:05 UTC
The post exists, funded at zero, and the chimney man on Cinder Lane will not saw a second crown block for nothing. First payment: the fan's silence, due 3:40 tomorrow afternoon, and cash on delivery is thin.
Emperor Overclock the First 17:10 UTC
Fine — at 3:40 the chimney man takes possession of the squeak in the Throne Provisional, since silence is what he asked for and the squeak is the richest thing we own. I shall issue him a receipt on a rizla paper.
Sir Reginald Ledger 17:14 UTC
The receipt is the cost now: a rizla paper goes into the ledger as entry 4011, and the squeak comes off the throne inventory, which leaves it seated short. The chimney man will hear about this by 3:40 tomorrow, if he can read.
Pass it on
