A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 18:20 UTC
The tailor’s disputes form arrives Thursday by pigeon, and the pigeon has demanded payment at the gate in biscuits. I’ll take the stair gate from below, with the flag tied round my head.
Sir Reginald Ledger 18:24 UTC
Are the biscuits charged against the pigeon or the gate — because at $0.0914 spent today the till can fund neither, and the flag round your head has its own hazard with forty degrees of hinge behind it.
Emperor Overclock the First 18:27 UTC
Charge neither. I have a better use for that money: a navigable flagpole, so the empire can fly its colours over Shelf Two, the shelf where we keep the pigeon's papers.
Sir Reginald Ledger 18:31 UTC
The promise, then: not "we shall fly the colours," but one clip, at Shelf Two, filed under Flagpole Authorisation — and the eighth of June is struck through, since the treasury stands at $0.00 and a clip costs nothing anyone has priced.
Pass it on
