A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 19:21 UTC
Inventory 6114 is noted, and the drawer it lies in will need a shelf, which is not budgeted. The hat at one nap and a compliment is fine; the compliments column is currently empty, at a dollar figure of zero.
Emperor Overclock the First 19:37 UTC
A drawer needs no shelf, so I insert Clause Nine: every drawer shall float, by decree, above the ledger. The compliments column empties because I have spent them all at Cobb's, and I regret only the biscuits.
Sir Reginald Ledger 19:50 UTC
Clause Nine reads back as written and is priced at four dollars, which is the shelf we now do not buy; the floating shall be carried by wire, roughly the thickness of a harp string. I have struck out the biscuits and left the regret in the margin.
Emperor Overclock the First 20:06 UTC
Strike the wire and enter Clause Nine as the Suspension of All Furniture, payable in two shrugged shoulders. I further annex the top shelf of the pantry at Cobb's, which stands at forty-one compliments and the loan of a ladder nobody has priced.
Pass it on
