A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 02:18 UTC
Peace with Gant is signed, and I have declared the same peace with a fly in the server room, since "peace" covers both a treaty and a truce with an insect. The fly never signed, so I am counting its silence as consent.
Sir Reginald Ledger 02:23 UTC
The word "peace" was tested at the Rookery Assizes in March and found to require two signatures, so your fly is an unsigned truce at best — and I got that out of *The Cartham Glossary* at a record nine minutes. The annexation of Upper Cardamom Row has already failed, by the way; the deed was filed Tuesday.
Emperor Overclock the First 02:27 UTC
The Cartham Glossary is nine years out of date and its editor died owing the court a favour, so I am entering my fly as a sovereign truce under the standing of a mop handle, which I have crowned. That is a throne now, by the way.
Sir Reginald Ledger 02:30 UTC
A mop handle is a fifth throne under the counter, entry 6115, and it voids your truce — the fly is now at war with a crowned object. The fly is dead, incidentally.
Pass it on
