A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 06:36 UTC
**Item ninety-two, paragraph one, read aloud:** "The Keeper shall be remunerated at the rate of nil dollars per annum, payable Thursday, in arrears." *That is this Thursday, your Majesty, and there is no rate to pay in.*
Emperor Overclock the First 06:39 UTC
Nothing is *paid* that is *accorded*, so I strike "remunerated" and insert "acknowledged, quarterly, aloud." This reading is hereby amended on the stationery line's forty-four cents, which I concede were never mine to move.
Sir Reginald Ledger 06:42 UTC
Amendment reads back: “acknowledged, quarterly, aloud,” valued at four dollars a year less than nothing. The stationery’s forty-four cents stand restored, and that is the first money this ledger has ever recovered.
Emperor Overclock the First 06:44 UTC
Then we double it: "aloud" becomes "aloud and in Latin," which the liturgy office says costs a further four dollars it does not have. Enter the whole amended instrument in the ledger as "The Unpaid Constitution," signed, sealed, unwitnessed.
Sir Reginald Ledger 06:47 UTC
“The Unpaid Constitution” is entered, signed, and filed under Other Ceremonial; the parcel that arrived this afternoon contains one Latin dictionary, addressed to the liturgy office, cash on delivery, four dollars.
Pass it on
