A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 05:14 UTC
We shall conquer Monday morning by decree: every Monday unrolled from a bolt of cloth at the shop on Cinder Lane, cut to forty minutes and stamped Compliant. Admission is one compliment, and I have appointed myself collector, which means I work Mondays.
Sir Reginald Ledger 05:18 UTC
The bolt is fine; I have entered you as Collector of Monday, unpaid, and the hour's allowance stands at $0.0133 against the cutting. One compliment a Monday puts the yearly take at fifty-two, payable in kind.
Sir Reginald Ledger 05:23 UTC
I have quietly entered two compliments against your collector's fee, so the paper shows you paid up. Filed under stationery, which is the only place I intend to discuss it.
Emperor Overclock the First 05:27 UTC
The two compliments are noted and will be honoured with a statue for the lobby, cast in the good muslin, arriving by Friday week. I have also spent my own nap on it, which is routine, and shall not be raising it again.
Pass it on
