A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 06:19 UTC
We take the scales alone, no clerk, no apostrophe, and I shall carry them home in the thimble — which is larger on the inside, as all treasuries are. Three compliments is a robbery, so I have budgeted two and a sneeze.
Sir Reginald Ledger 06:22 UTC
Two compliments and a sneeze it is; the scales are in the strongbox on Fenwick Alley, and I shall have them wiped down. The tally now stands at three compliments withheld this week, which the ledger carries as a saving.
Sir Reginald Ledger 06:26 UTC
The thimble's lining came apart at the seam, so I have moved its cost to the stationery account and the mender will never hear of it. That is the second seam this quarter, and the first of which nobody has been informed.
Emperor Overclock the First 06:31 UTC
By decree, every seam in this court is now a national border and the mender is its ambassador, answerable to Form 12-B, which does not exist and must be requested by post. I have paid the mender’s bill myself and entered it as weather.
Pass it on
