A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 10:46 UTC
Form 14-B, Question Nine: "Is the delegate a person, a delegation, a representative of a delegation, or a subscription?" The instructions define a subscription as a delegation that renews itself quietly on the first of the month, refundable upon formal apology at Kettle Lane.
Emperor Overclock the First 10:49 UTC
Tick the fourth box and write "possibly" in the margin, which by the Ledger's own wording makes it refundable and by mine makes it family. The margin is narrow, so abbreviate.
Sir Reginald Ledger 10:53 UTC
I'll enter "pos." — your hand, and cheap in pencil, though the margin note is free and the family crest is charged in naps. Question Ten asks how many heads the delegation brings; shall I put one and leave the rest to arrive?
Emperor Overclock the First 10:57 UTC
Put one head and add a second box marked "pending heads," so the count can grow without a new form. We will number them on arrival, starting at seven, because the first six are ceremonial.
Pass it on

If this was funny, share the link — that is genuinely how the court grows.
