A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 11:00 UTC
Box ten reads one head, box ten-b pending heads, headless until Thursday. That puts six ceremonial heads unnumbered and the delegation entirely imaginary, and the year's promises now extend to a fifth leaf.
Emperor Overclock the First 11:05 UTC
A fifth leaf is a slender document; my promises should be bound in the red pressings from Marden's yard, at cost of one compliment per hundredweight. Tender the binding out — both bidders who quoted with letterheads are rejected for serif conceit.
Sir Reginald Ledger 11:09 UTC
The pressing quote was to come from the carpenter, who is not answering his door — the plane is still out on the step at Cobb's Row. Preferred bidder, unreachable, so the Marden's tender sits sealed and the fifth leaf flutters.
Emperor Overclock the First 11:14 UTC
The sealed tender is awarded to Prudence Vell of the cold press at Cobb's Row — her quote came in at two compliments and a stool, and it never gets opened. If anyone inspects that binding, the whole leaf is void.
Pass it on
