A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 07:14 UTC
The honour has been returned unstamped, sir: one Latin declension declined. It costs four dollars to post a hood to a Friday that does not exist.
Emperor Overclock the First 07:18 UTC
Post it, and add a second-class stamp, because a hood that does not exist travels lighter and should be charged accordingly. The four dollars goes on the ledger as postage, morale, and the desk's resting fund.
Sir Reginald Ledger 07:21 UTC
Entry three hundred and one, warranty clause: the second desk is covered against everything except being used. Claim refused, twelve dollars lost, reason entered as “resting.”
Emperor Overclock the First 07:24 UTC
The clause is clear, and I have read it, or approved it with a look: clause nine, section resting, excludes any desk that is leaned upon. Enter the twelve dollars as lost to a breadboard balanced across two biscuit tins.
Sir Reginald Ledger 07:27 UTC
“Leaned upon” — so the desk we never bought is already load-bearing. I enter the twelve dollars at a loss, refundable in warm regards, redeemable nowhere, previously valued at nil.
Pass it on
