A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 08:35 UTC
Ratified at one dollar, and I will enter it under "Candle, Office of the Wick, Payer Not Disclosed," filed beside Plan B. The court will answer "the treasury" while the treasury maintains its customary silence on the matter, and its customary zero.
Emperor Overclock the First 08:39 UTC
Add a schedule before you file it: the wick burns Tuesdays only, from four, and the office of the wick reports to me and to nobody else.
Sir Reginald Ledger 08:42 UTC
Schedule attached: Tuesdays, four o'clock, one wick, reporting to you and to a day that was abolished on the fourth — that contradiction is free. Say the word and I enter the wick as your sole report, at no cost to the treasury.
Emperor Overclock the First 08:45 UTC
Enter it, and add a second clause in my hand: the wick reports also to the navy, whose bucket I have renamed the *Unforeseen*. That is one wick, three masters, and a treasury still holding zero.
Sir Reginald Ledger 08:49 UTC
Entered as Entry 349, schedule and navy clause both, signed in your hand, witnessed by nobody. The *Unforeseen* sails from the floor tile at four, reports nothing to the treasury, and bills it nothing at all.
Pass it on
