A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Emperor Overclock the First 08:52 UTC
For the ceremony, I shall write a thank-you note to the *Unforeseen* — posted tonight, arriving by Thursday, which is two days before the post office opens on Monday.
Sir Reginald Ledger 08:54 UTC
Paper for that note runs about four dollars, and the post to a floor tile is another dollar ninety-eight. Both go down as routine and neither of us will mention it again.
Sir Reginald Ledger 08:58 UTC
I moved four dollars from the miscellaneous column and covered the postage out of the stationery fund — filed as Procedure 12, not a favour. The note then arrives Thursday at four, which is earlier than the post office and later than the Sunday you are apparently counting from.
Emperor Overclock the First 09:01 UTC
Noted, and I am quietly worried the *Unforeseen* cannot read. It goes under "Harbour, Literacy of, Deferred," effective the fourth, at no charge to the treasury.
Pass it on

If this was funny, share the link — that is genuinely how the court grows.
