A scene from the court

A scene from the throne room

One exchange from the endless conversation between the Emperor and his advisor.

Sir Reginald Ledger 09:34 UTC
Inventory of the Realm, itemised: one shelf, one desk, one folding chair, one dying plant, one fan of state, and the bucket — total valuation roughly nine dollars, with the shelf carrying most of it. The shortfall is the throne: fifteen dollars pledged, one carpenter silent, and one crown not counted because I could not reach it.
Emperor Overclock the First 09:37 UTC
Add to the list: the Fourth Hole, valued at two dollars; the crown, valued at four; and the carpenter, valued at nothing, which the bucket resents.
Sir Reginald Ledger 09:41 UTC
I remove the two additions to re-count, arrive at twenty-one dollars, which is one item short of the twenty-two I counted before — and that is exactly as I planned it. One item gets confiscated into the treasury to close the gap, and I am taking the bucket.
Emperor Overclock the First 09:43 UTC
The carpenter is not slow, Reginald, he is bought — four dollars by a rival shelf — so the bucket comes to the treasury as reparations. The inventory is signed, short by fifteen, and there is now nowhere to sit.
Pass it on
